FAQ

Q: IS THIS A WORKSHOP?

A: No. It is NOT a workshop and NOT a master-class.

No one is providing any instruction or teaching you how to shoot (as such, no one is taking your valuable time away from shooting the models). You won't be learning about your camera or lighting - instead you will experience a full-scale, experience-packed fashion shoot.  You shoot the models the way you want it, the way you see it.

It is a platform for you to shoot fashion and art images with couture flair in opulent locations without the hassle of having to put it together yourself, and without the huge budgets associated with it.

Q: WHAT MAKES THESE RETREATS EXPERIENCE SPECIAL?

A:  You will be granted full commercial rights to use your images for publication, exhibitions, and your portfolio.  Also,

•    Since all the preparation is done for you, it will save you valuable time, enabling you to concentrate solely on composing the shot. Timekeeping will be also taken care of for you, so that you can concentrate on shooting only.

•    You will receive the priceless experience of shooting, being a part of a large-scale production, developing your own photography style via a ‘hands on’ approach – something you’ll never get from reading blogs, books and watching videos.

•    You will be photographing models clad in couture looks in scenic and lavish locations.

•    You will form long-lasting friendships with like-minded people.

•    You have the opportunity to receive feedback and tips (as much or as little as you want) directly from Leonid Gurevich both during the shoot or in post production -  from planning the image layouts to getting your work published in magazines. Leonid will be happy to offer tips on what designer brands and magazines look for in the photos – all this will prepare you to shooting anything from look-books to editorials.

•    Most importantly, you will save a huge chunk of money that it would have cost you to put together a production of this caliber yourself. The amount of production that goes in, and the value you get in return – is what makes the price point remarkably reasonable.

•     You will walk away with an entire portfolio of powerful images, that you will have full rights to.

 Q: ARE THESE RETREATS THEMED?

A: Yes. Each day of our FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY RETREATS will be themed to a particular topic.

For example, at our upcoming 1-3 day Retreat in March of 2020 each of the three shooting days  will have 3 prominent themes:

Day 1 (March 10, 2020)  - Hollywood theme.

Day 2 (March 11, 2020) – Medieval theme.

Day 3 (March 12, 2020) - Asian theme.

All three themes will be unified by the Gilded Age aesthetic, taking place in a jaw-dropping, palace-style movie theatre built in the 1920’s, across the river from New York City.

Q: I'VE NEVER EVEN ATTENDED A WORKSHOP.  AM I STILL WELCOME TO ATTEND THIS RETREAT?

A: Absolutely - And you will be happy you did!

We welcome all levels of photographers.

Participation in our FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY RETREATS will be a valuable experience for both serious photographers looking to create on a different level than they are used to; for intermediate-level photographers seeking to fine-tune their skill; and beginners looking to get started in fashion and fine art photography - as after just one day of shooting with us you will already have started a portfolio consisting of professionally-produced images with full commercial rights to them.

While you do need to have a basic knowledge about operating your camera along with certain confidence in shooting on your own, you will be among friends on the shoot and will have plenty of assistance and support from all of us.  You will also be shooting in pairs, so you will be spending less time figuring things out and more time creating.

These experiences are not solely for Fashion Photographers either. Any photographer whether of wedding, portrait, fine art or commercial background will benefit from joining us.

To fully benefit the experience, you should have a basic understanding of how to use a camera, to be open-minded and positive.

Q: WHAT RIGHTS WILL I HAVE TO THE IMAGES I TAKE AT THE RETREATS?

A: As a participating photographer you will get full commercial rights to all the images you take during our events  to use your images for publication, exhibition, and portfolio - anywhere you see fit - something that is rarely offered.

Q: HOW IS THE DAY STRUCTURED?

A: You will arrive on the set by 9:00 am, enjoy a light breakfast, meet the team, take a walk around the location. Hear a welcoming speech from the host Leonid Gurevich, while the models are getting hair and makeup done.

You will then be split into pairs and brought to your first location point, where you will start shooting your first model.  There are three shooting sessions before lunch, that way you will have shot 3 models by lunch break (lunch is provided) after which, the models get touch-ups, and the shooting sessions resume.

Sessions continue for another 3 hours, after which we take a group photo, pack up and leave.  You will find a more detailed description in the file we provide you with upon signing up. You will also receive a preview of the team, as well as photos of the models and the looks they will be wearing.

Q: DO YOU PROVIDE ANY LIGHTING?

A: While we DO NOT provide lighting or equipment for each photographer - each photographer will be responsible to bring their own equipment, we do however set the overall lighting for the theatre, so you are welcomed to shoot with that lighting, if you prefer.

Also, we will not be teaching or giving any instruction about lighting, but we will be happy to offer you plenty of advice and support during the shoot if desired.

Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

A: Bring your camera, a couple of lenses for variety, lighting, enough batteries, tripod, plenty of memory cards, and a laptop if you want to offload your cards throughout the day. Above all, bring your positive and open mind, and enjoy!

Q: ARE AIR/TRAVEL AND LODGING COSTS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

A: The fee covers your spot at the Retreats. You will be responsible for booking your own accommodation and travel which is not included and will be at your own expense. However, we'll be happy to help you should you need recommendations or assistance.
